Best thing about the temp circ desk location
Rolling chair on a tile floor. I don’t even have to get up to grab/reshelve reserve books. Nope. Just roll on over.

Weekly perusing of job listings
This time yielded two jobs that looked semi-decent, but both would require multi-part commutes of an hour and a half minimum. Not really at the point where I’m willing to do that yet. And definitely not at a point where I’d consider getting a car and doing a driving commute, because the cost of the car and insurance (plus the hassle of parking) would probably be more than any increase...

nefariousnewt: girlwithcurves: Dresses aren’t typically my clothing of choice, unless they’re a flattering fit and length. For me, that means mid-length (below the knee), or empire waist and maxi. This dress fits into neither of these categories, but I thought I’d take a Holiday from my usual ensemble, step outside my… What a great outfit! I love this. So many pretty shades of blue and...

Glaring at the kitty.
Found another box she peed on at some point. It’s partly my fault because I haven’t been as good about cleaning the litter box out as I should be, but she’s really chosen infuriating things to destroy - past issues of Bitch that I hadn’t gotten around to reading, my certificate of concentration in Rare Books and Special Collections, and a lovely journal with hand-stamped...

Off to my first ever bachelorette party.
It should be fairly tame (it’s at her apartment; there will be booze, massages, and karaoke), but also has the potential of being highly awkward - I haven’t seen most of the people in this friend group since New Year’s Eve, and I don’t think I’m invited to the actual wedding (at least, I did not receive an invitation and I think it’s either this Sunday or...

18 Seriously Cool Bookshelves & Bookcases →
haguenite: motivatedslacker: Added bonus (for me, anyway): most of these don’t look like they’d do much damage or harm to the books themselves. I’m just gonna add That is so much more than a bookshelf. That is a proper reading nook, and I covet it.

So I spent this afternoon crawling around under less dusty tables reconnecting the computers I disconnected this morning. I’m pretty sure I got this task solely because I am the youngest/most agile full-time employee. Also, I only hit my head against the underside of a table once. For me, this is an impressive accomplishment.

Purchased:
25 feet of chicken wire and 100 cable ties. One of this weekend’s projects is cat-proofing the terrace. I also bought her a collar yesterday. Once she’s used to it, I’ll add a tag with contact info. You will not escape again, my kitty, and if you do, I’ll be prepared.

In the ER
chockfullohoot: catsandscience: This is Faithinlogic posting for Catsandscience. She’s in the ER right now after suffering a very severe complex migraine. She lost the ability to speak for two hours and the ability to move the right side of her body. She is doing better but it was really scary for a bit. C&S and FiL: I’m so sorry! I’ve been in her shoes and it’s scary as hell. Wishing...

My frustration with this library/how it is run is reaching epic new levels with this move. You want to keep old Russian journals, VHS tapes, and floppy disks? Fine. But if your argument for keeping them is that they may be useful, at least store them somewhere accessible (and lord knows we don’t have the space for them here, so seriously, look into some damn off-site storage). Dusty boxes...

Maybe computer screens. Or maybe everyone just stares at those things without registering what their eyes see. #public library aide We have signs on neon green paper. They are apparently invisible.

I am so confused by this chart →
The sewer grate comment confuses me. The only time I really have that problem is when I’m wearing flowy skirts, which are generally longer. “Questionable” skirt lengths are usual tighter and in no danger of blowing up. Unless it’s my black wrap dress, which can be revealing in breezes and is also rather short. But that’s why I wear a slip. The cat-call option just...

Things that are sad
Composing an informative email that you’re pretty sure few people will bother to read. In particular, writing out step-by-step instructions for the process you will undoubtedly have to explain repeatedly over the course of the next few months.

sage-a-licious: There’s this weird smell in my house. It’s driving me crazy. So I took out all the trash because I couldn’t find the source of the smell. And then I kept turning the knob hoping that somehow it would become unlocked and I...

I think I may have found a way to use the CoverGirl lipstain pens without it looking like a child attacked my lips with a magic marker. It basically involves putting it on, letting it sit for a minute, and then wiping most of it off. The actual stain that remains is a much more reasonable hue.
