October 2011
I’ve decided to stop volunteering for now. I enjoyed it, but I can’t deal with doing it and working full time. I need more than one day off a week.

Watched the premiers of both Once Upon a Time and Grimm. I think I like Grimm a bit more, but then I am partial to crime shows in general.
So my Oscar Wilde costume is going to have to wait until next year. It’s gross outside and I have a massive headache, so I’m skipping the party and staying in. I feel bad about missing the party, but I’m not going to be any fun at the moment.
“Please don’t use your phone in the library.”
“But no one’s here!”
“It’s still the rule.”
Also, there was someone studying like 10 feet away from him, which I came back to point out. Then I managed to convince him to go out in the lobby so only I had to listen to him talk.
Trust me dude, if I had any control over the heat it would not be this cold in here. Please note the wrist-warmers and cowl I am currently sporting indoors.

Gym is not happening today.
I keep looking out the office window and thinking “I really don’t want to go out in that.”
At least the office is warmer than the library, so I’m no longer numb.

Oh my god, wintry mix, go fuck yourself.
My feelings precisely.
That was just lightening. And thunder. And it’s still snowing.
Mother Nature, you are drunk.
Thermostat claims it’s 67 degrees in here.
I don’t believe it.
I’m going to go to the gym during my lunch break just so I can be warm for a while.
Things that I was planning on doing this weekend that probably should have gotten done before it snowed, but too late now:
Clean the grill
Stack the outdoor chairs
Put grill and chairs next to my bike and cover it all with an extra tarp
Remove the window unit
Dammit, mother nature, I was not prepared for this.
Yeah, that’s snow outside. Hm. Glad I upgraded my coat this morning, but now I wish I had grabbed my hat and gloves instead of just the cowl and wrist-warmers. Bah.
The weather and/or the fact that it’s Halloween weekend seems to be keeping most people away from the library today.
The heat is on at my apartment now, but the heat at work is still largely ineffectual. My fingertips are freezing.
Had a fantastic time last night, though it was slightly dampened (literally, even) when I had to deal with a backed up toilet at home before I could collapse into bed.
And now I am awake and armed with coffee, whee.
My plans for the evening: Kitties, dinner, and booze, all accompanied by friends. Should be fun.

So I’m reading a book my therapist recommended (Getting Unstuck by Don Kerson, M.D.), and the phrase “motivated slacker” has never seemed quite so apt. Kerson has a more expansive view of ADD and thinks the hyperactive aspect can manifest in ways other than physically, i.e. a hyperactive imagination. So more people deal with an inability to focus and such than will ever be...
and another of the (many) reasons I am pro-choice
dr-wtfox:
I am pro-choice because to dictate to a woman what she can and cannot do with her body, her life, and her future, is to strip her both of her bodily autonomy and her existence as a moral agent. Telling a woman or a girl or anyone capable of becoming pregnant that they can’t be trusted to do “the right thing” (i.e. what you believe they should do), and that they must therefore be bound...
theghostofatumblruser asked: She's an inside cat but I think if I set her free out into the world she probably could. Yesterday I saw her hunting a bug that had made a mistake and came indoors. She was pretty fierce. She hangs out with my other cat Neville Longbottom a lot so I think together they're pretty much unstoppable.

I really do love the various coupon/deal websites. Massage from Groupon today, and an Indian dinner for 2 from LivingSocial.
I don’t really care about baseball, but it was kind of nice to wake up and discover that the Cardinals had managed to win after all.
C’mon guys. Win the next one for my grandmother.

Oh no, I mean, I think the thermostate is WRONGGGGGGG. I think it’s actually got to be colder than that ;)
Heh. The thermostat is also at the center of the apartment, away from windows and such. So it’s probably the warmest point in the apartment.

Huh, I didn’t think you’d be feeling quite so cold at 65F, honestly. But yeah, if the guy’s nice, just give a call. It’s supposed to snow tomorrow, for goodness’ sake, you need more than incidental heat!
Evidently I am wimpy when it comes to the cold. Wimpy and whiny.

A quick run-down should you ever find yourself trapped in a horror movie and would prefer to live to tell the tale.

Both of you! It’s below 40F—legally your heat has to be on when it’s below 50F. So if it’s not on by tonight, call 311 and get them on your landlords’ asses.
I looked it up. Technically, “Between the hours of 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, if the outside temperature falls below 55 degrees, the inside...
I am really cold this morning. I really want the heat to be turned on.

Hi, this is your friendly neighborhood library worker with an important PSA.
Libraries are not going to go under because of e-readers. Trust me on this one. Many libraries have already accepted the e-reader with open arms because yay! reading! (in any format) and have adopted and integrated technologies that work with e-readers. For example, the library system I work...
First thing for Orlando trip has been set! We’re going to Discovery Cove. Swimming with dolphins, snorkeling (if I can manage it - last time I tried I did not do well), feeding birds, and other such fun things.
Well, I guess we also already knew we’re doing Wizarding World, but an exact date for that hasn’t been decided yet. And there will also be a trip to SeaWorld so I can...
Gonna go have a fancy-schmancy dinner now.
